Relocation and conservation of a Roman sculpture of the goddess Juno, early second century A.D.:
April 2012, Removal of the steel frame
With the sculpture securely installed on its base, the supporting steel frame which had surrounded the figure for more than three months is removed.
Layers of protective padding and wrapping are peeled away.
In many places, the frame needs to be cut apart in order to free the sculpture.
Finally, the sculpture is fully unveiled in its permanent home, taking a commanding position at the far end of the Behrakis Gallery. The head is temporarily mounted onto a smaller pedestal nearby, but will eventually be reattached to the body.
