New member Liz Koch describes her favorite Museum Council event and why she joined.

Why did you initially decide to join the Council?

My family has a long history with the Museum of Fine Arts. I grew up visiting the Museum with my parents and grandparents. After moving into a career with a more flexible schedule, the timing seemed appropriate for me to become more involved.

What event are you most looking forward to this season?

I was very much looking forward to the Council Fellows trip to New York City, and it was fantastic! I loved the opportunity to tour AIPAD (The Association of International Photography Art Dealers) and the Frida Kahlo show there. After seeing “Frida Kahlo and Arte Popular” at the �������ϲʿ����ֳ�ֱ��, it was fun to be able to compare and contrast exhibits!

If you could design a new Council event, what would it look like?

I would love the opportunity to take a gallery tour around Boston’s South End with an eye toward collectorship and a focus on up-and-coming artists. Another idea would be an event that discusses the history of wine or food’s role in art across the ages, examining the reasons and messages involved in its representation. Pairing drinks and hors d’oeuvres would be a fun addition.

What is your favorite exhibition you have seen at the �������ϲʿ����ֳ�ֱ��?

There are too many to count! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the most recent Ansel Adams exhibition [“Ansel Adams in Our Time”], as well as “Megacities Asia” and its associated exhibitions (“Ruined: When Cities Fall” and “London and Edo: Cities on the Rise”), particularly Hu Xiangcheng’s installation of doors and windows from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The one area of the Museum where you can always find me is the American Wing, enjoying the works of Martin Johnson Heade and his contemporaries.
